The mission of the Department of Community Development is to improve the quality of life in the Village of Bellwood by facilitating and fostering development/redevelopment that retains and attracts residents and businesses, creates jobs, and strengthens the community environment.
Functions
·Advance local Community Development.
·Manage economic development programs such as small business loans, tax increment financing, downtown redevelopment, etc.
·Capitalize on the city's viable advantages, including its built environment, diversity, and location.
·Promote high-quality, ongoing development/redevelopment that compliments and enhances the environment.
·Facilitate sound planning and investment decisions, which serve the needs of local residents, workers and businesses.
·Cultivate and sustain business development and ensure procedures, evaluations and authorizations are efficient, reliable and comprehensible.
Programs
Business Retention Program is a Community Development program designed to reach out to existing businesses in the community and build greater working relationships in order to find out the needs or desires of the organization and how the Village of Bellwood can assist them in addressing issues. By visiting the various organizations in the community the Village of Bellwood can shows its desire to be a link to the businesses, thereby making efforts to preserve the business in the community.
